You've never heard of Bigfoot? The giant man-ape that prowls the forest of the US Northwest?

there are a ton of them..the Jersey devil..big foot, the lockness monster has been spotted in the USA...there are also tons of haunted places...valley forge park, right here in Pa.. were the battle took place is said to have some supernatural legends with it.Chicago i think it is, is suppose to have a city beneath a city..were you can actually take a tour and go down and see whole family's of dead people, not sure if it is still there..but 20 some years ago it was..and that has a lot of supernatural innuendos. just do a random search on line your sure to find a lot...

There is a west coast legend that is based on a true story. There was an grand boardwalk called the Pike, in Long Beach, CA. By the 1970s it was run down and creepy. Lee Majors decided to shoot an episode of the Six Million Dollar Man in the old, abandoned funhouse. While a grip was laying some cable, he bumped into and broke one of the fun house dummies. It turned out there was a mummified corpse inside. After much forensic investigation, it turned out to be the perserved corpse of Elmer McCurdy, a bad outlaw of the old west who was shot to death in 1911. If you want to find out how he ended up as a funhouse dummy follow the link.

I'm from Cali, so I'll give ya a tip on that scene...
In San Jose, there is this place called The Winchester Mystery House...The wife of the Winchester gun maker built this huge home, and had contractors working on it day in day out until she died. It's said that she built many rooms, rooms within rooms, and many pathways that led to nowhere to confuse the spirits that were killed by the guns made by her husband's company.
Most notably, there is a stairway that leads up to nothing but a wall, kinda creepy. Also, things around the home are often in sets of 13, added screepiness. You can see all these things on a tour that is conducted at different times of the day...
It's a cool thing to check out...

Even better, there are the "Mystery Spots" located in several different places along the coast of Cali. I guess the "Mystery Spots" are like vortexes. If you take a compass to these places, they go hay-wire, if you're on one side of a room and your buddy is on the otherside, you will appear taller than the your buddy, and vice-versa..There's all sorts of weird things at the "Mystery Spots".

And there is Alcatraz Island, the infamous prison...
If you happen to go on a tour and experience Alcatraz for yourself, it's kinda creepy, but I think that's just subconscious Oogy-Boogy's working on ya, knowing what happened in a place like that...

My Grandma told about a troll that lived under a bridge that chased a neighbor of hers who was on horseback and made the man's hair go white. She scared the Hell out of me with that story. Hateful woman.

But I'd say the myriad of 'urban legends' that are so distinctly American are our legends. I love the one about the teen-aged girl with teased hair that had a roach infestation inside it? Or the teen-aged girl hitchhiking that turns out to be a dead girl who was killed going to her prom?
