Even if the avatars weren't cute they would still say nasty, disgusting ignorant things because they think they are being annoynmous and if real faces were shone. While it wouldn't be completely stopped it would be greatly reduced.

Because it's easy to come on here and say mean and hateful things when you're hiding behind an avatar rather than your real face

Yes, the face of the internet are idiots who don't realize that there's an actual person sitting on the other ending, who will say anything they want without any hesitation.

That can be a good thing, but most times it's not.

I believe so. And do you notice that the ones that say the most horrendous things don't have a picture at all. So they are just cowards that are hiding behind what they're saying.

Yes you are so correct in your assumption. Think of it like this; its better to be able to feel the temperature of people's thoughts with honesty; than to have them be polite and feed you garbage. Its the private chat online that gives us that experiences even thought yes they are hiding behind their cute avatars, instead of their true identities.

Oh most definitely. Believe me, if some of us knew where half of these fools lived, I've no doubt someone would be angry enough to go to their house and cause harm. Not to mention some of those saying such awful things might already know us. They could be our neighbors, coworkers, associates at the grocery store, etc, etc, etc...
You never know.

I think people have a sense of false security by doing that yes. But from the looks of yours, glad you didn't use an avatar cutie :)

You Can't be held accountable for your actions if your doing it anonymously .So of course they use they're avatars as safety shields
