You're right, no skill is required to drive an Automatic. Its all done for you. When I was 19 I had a 86 Mustang with manual and a 5.4L.

To date I have driven a Lamborghini Murcielago and a Ferrari f430 Spyder.

While most traditional drivers will perfer a manual, I think that with todays ALL WHEEL DRIVE technology, and computerized drive by wire systems present in most cars such as the Bugatti Veyron, Manual shifting isn't good enough.

That is why most super luxury cars have manumatic shifting. The car's computer can shift gears automatically but if the driver wants to he can take over the shifting responsibility when he so chooses.

In my experience, with the specifically Murcielago, there is no gear shift lever. Instead there are manumatic shift paddles right behind the wheel. I like this setup alot better because the computer is so good that it knows EXACTLY when to shift up or down even when I didn't.

Most people perfer manual because it makes them feel like they are the proffessionals you see on NASCAR but they have never driven a tru race car.
I consider the Murcielago a tru race car.

The Buggati Veyron for example has an automatic simply because at high speeds, wrong shifts can be fatal.

Absolutely, it makes the driving experience much more exhilarating. I have always had a manual; I learned to drive on one. It all started with my jeep, I loved my jeep, but it was one of those that needed a certain touch that had to be mastered, but it was a good one to learn with, if you can drive an old jeep you can drive anything. I currently drive a 5, it's infinitely better. Short throw, quick response, it's the ultimate driving machine. I love everything about it, running it out in first and second, seeing how much momentum I can build in third, throwing it into fourth and flying past people on the highway, listening to my engine wind down when I downshift, I couldn't imagine it any other way. Maybe that's why I get so many speeding tickets. My best (or worst) was 96 in a 65, but I have gone much faster. My personal record is 125, I am very proud of that, I hope to shatter this benchmark one day but I find it hard to find anywhere to attain these ridiculous speeds on the crowded streets of Houston. Whenever I am driving an automatic I find myself reaching out with my left foot and right arm at certain intervals only to realize it’s not necessary. I think I pay less attention to the road when I'm driving an automatic because I don't have anything to keep me concentrated on driving. I don’t think I'll ever own an automatic.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Shifting your own gears is more rewarding and fun than just turning the steering wheel and pushing the brake and gas. Unfortunately, most people in US can not drive a manual. I don't know why. Maybe they are just lazy or maybe they don't know the benefits of a manual. For example, you can push a manual and start it if you a have a bad starter. The manual transmission is cheaper to fix than an auto. Manual is not only fun, but it also preserves the engine which is why most race cars are manual.

I agree with you, it's all about the stick, I feel like I'm more in control. Plus it makes you feel good when a car that is faster than your gets beat by you, because you are the better driver. The reason there are so many automatics on the road is some of these younger kids don't want to learn, and a lot of women don't want to learn. You have to respect the ones that do though.

Depends on the car. My BMW 745 is automatic because it is not a racing vehicle, and my SUV's are automatic too. I also have this BMW Z4 roadster, and that one is manual. The only thing that I don't like, is those stupid teenagers trying to show off their $500 cars. They think they're riding in Ferrari's or something, and they're actually riding in f*cked up rusty old used cars with no horsepower at all. I mean, if you're going to choose manual, choose a true sport car. Not some old junk yard car.

Manual gear shifting turns me into a maniac on the road. I love it. Wouldn't have it any other way. But I've got an automatic and guess what - - - I almost still got a speeding ticket (80 in a 55) so could you imagine me in a manual - - ......exactly!

Manuals are definitely better than automatics, particularly if you are a speed racer or the type of driver who wants your car/truck to pick up and go when YOU are ready (not when it is ready). Besides, after dealing with 2 broken automatic transmissions, I can definitely tell you it is a lot cheaper to replace the clutch in a manual!

I prefer manual any day, I recently drove an Aston Martin DB9 and it was automatic. It was still great but it took a lot of control away, and I couldn`t give it some in the corners as I would have wished.

No question about it, when you go at high speeds on curvy roads a stick shift is the best, it helps in braking, and powering out of corners. In my younger days, I was never beat by a guy with an automatic.

With manual shifting you can increase the speed in mid drift as to automatic you have to wait for the sensor to accelerate
