For women, it keeps foreign material out of the playground.
For men though, I'm really not sure what benefit it has.
And either way, it doesn't actually have to have had a purpose, some developments just happen and since they don't have an adverse affect they never go away.
At any rate, it doesn't make one feel better when one is laying on a table having an aethetician apply hot wax...

Before the toothbrush, the pubic hair was our only means of flossing our teeth. Ah, the good ole days!!

We used to be hairy all over. We lost most of that hair.

pubic hair was a protective barrier from germs!!
remember clothes didnt always exist.. and our ancestors used to walk around naked...
it also acted as a way to minimize friction during intercourse, as the natural oils would act as a natural lubricant which reduces body friction..
nowaday's they don't have much use to us.. we have clothes and we bathe regularly.. that means goodbye germs...
