When does 'middle age' begin?

I am soon to be 41,and my teenage daughter told me that"I am in the middle of middle age."

Well I started my mid life crisis at the age of 38 so that to me is middle age. Of couse I really don't expect to live much past 65 anyway. I would say it all depends on ones perspective. When I was 14 I thought 30 was old. When I turned 30 I thought 40 was old. I'm 40 now....so I guess I'm offically getting to the top of the hill. Even though I now think 50 is old.
