This will be my first time driving to Philly! I'm nervous! Is it a good idea to leave at night when there will be no traffic?

Take it from someone who has traveled from PA to VA at least twice a year;It is a lot better to leave at night because there is less traffic and you probably can make it faster to philly.Another good reason there may be some construction during the day compared to the evening. If I were you i would leave around seven or eight o'clock at night.Good luck in you travel.

Nervious about what? My cousin does it all the time from Norfolk. He's QMC on the CVN 69. You will run into traffic on the beltway arround DC & again in baltimore. Long drive, so take a break at the Chesapeke House or Maryland house rest stop. The best time would be at Mid day avoid the rush hours but see where you are going. Beware of speed traps near DC & Baltimore. Stay on 95N. It will take you right to Philly.

Driving at night is good because you don't hit as much traffic. You might want to leave VA after rush hour so that you get to Philly before it's too late or your too tired.

It looks like you might be coming from the Hampton Roads area, so if you leave at 6-7 AM you'd be in DC at 10-11 AM, through Baltimore at 12-12:30, and into Philadelphia at 2-2:30...you'd miss any rush hours and saving accidents or construction, any tie-ups. Fight the urge to go around Baltimore and Wilmington,DE....go straight through on 95...it's shorter and the bypass is quicker..maybe...during rush hour. Enjoy the trip!

if you are arriving on I-95 you will hit traffic any time of day, but it really isnt that bad. Philly is one of the more driver friendly cities

If you're driving from the Hampton Roads area, take the Eastern Shore. It's such a nicer drive, and you won't hit traffic!

You should try to arrive after morning traffic and before evening traffic. Philly roads are crazy busy sometimes. Don't be nervous! Welcome to Philly!

The Beltway is a b***h. Try to time it so you are going around it during nonpeak hours. Otherwise, it's a great drive. Enjoy.
