Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird"..good book, easy reading, lots of life lessons in it..if you mean fiction. Or, you may try Laura Ingalls Wilder books..Little House on the Prairie series. I know everyone thinks they are children's books but I read them again as a young woman and found them just as uplifting and inspiring. That was a rough life to lead but everyone worked together.

"1984" by George Orwell. The scifi aspect will appeal to the guys and all will learn to question political decisions
"The House of Seven Gables" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The romance will appeal to the girls, and the darkness will appeal to the guys, and you can most likely get a lively discussion on goths and gothic as well

King Fortis the Brave, Harry Potter and Eragon are my favorites!
If I had to pick a most favorite it would probably be King Fortis. The characters are the most believable and it has the right mix of action and humor.
