It's possible that your water broke, but my bet is that you just really had to pee. Especially if you just woke up, there are hours worth of urine in there to get out.
With that said, here is a test to tell if your water broke:
Use the restroom and completely empty your bladder. Then get a clean pad and underwear. Put them on and lie flat down in bed for half an hour. After the half an hour return to the bathroom and check if the pad is wet. If it is, gross though this sounds, smell the pad. If it smells like urine, it's urine. If it has no smell (most common), or smells like bleach or protein, it is probably amniotic fluid.
If your water has broken you need to call your doctor and go to the hospital immediately. The risk of infection to your baby skyrockets once your water breaks. Usually, if you are not already experiencing contractions, they will begin within 24 hours of your water breaking.
Some things to keep in mind are that the membranes rupture (water breaks) before labor in only 15% of pregnancies. It's actually the exception rather than the rule. Often it will not break until you're already at the hospital, or it will have to be broken for you by the doctor.
Also, if you have noticed that the flow of fluid has stopped when you are lying down, it is most likely not amniotic fluid. It might just be increased discharge. Not everyone knows this, but amniotic fluid does not run out. It replaces itself constantly to protect the baby. However, if it stops while you are standing or sitting up, that can be perfectly normal, as often the baby's head blocks the flow once he is engaged in the lower pelvis.
If you find that your water has indeed broken and you notice that it is not clear, but stained a dark green or brown, you need to forgo calling your doctor and go to the hospital ASAP! The staining is meconium (baby's fecal matter) and indicates that the baby is in distress. Have someone call your doctor once you're safely at the hospital.
Congratulations and good luck!

When your water breaks, it can be a small and slow leak or trickle, or for some women, it is a rush of fluid. If it was amniotic fluid, it will continue to leak. Put on a pad for a half hour to see if more leaks and feel the pad. You will not be able to use your muscles to stop this flow as you would urine. Also take note of the color and odor of the fluid. It should be clear and odorless. If not, it could be a sign of trouble, and you should be seen immediately. The doctor will want to know this information if it is indeed your water breaking. You do not need to go to the hospital now, as most doctors advise you to call and wait until contractions commence. If it gets to be close to twelve hours after a woman's water breaks, and there are no contractions, they will likely induce labor to reduce the chance of infection. Good luck. It won't take much longer!

i had three children. when your water breaks it usually is a sudden gush and does not feel like urinating at all. if u still have liquid coming out when off the toilet and your clothes are getting wet down there then definately. it wont stop all together once it breaks. If you still have doubts then by all means call your doc. there can be complications if 24 hours pass after it does break and u havent had the baby yet. more than likely u will know for sure but still call doc. good luck and take good care of yourself and baby.

"...and pissed for a long time..." Are you going to kiss your baby with that mouth?
To answer your question: When you have to urinate, you know the feeling you get in your abdomen, right? That urgent "I-have-to-use-the-toilet-now" feeling? If your water breaks, you don't have the urge to urinate. For me, it felt like being on my period and not using a tampon...only a pad. It was very warm, and I could feel it leaking out, but not like urine...like menstrual blood. My son was very low, so I had only a small trickle.

When my water broke it wasn't like peeing. you have no control. If you are at all concerned please call your doctor. around here common practice is to make sure the baby is born within 24 hours of your water breaking. You will want to be at the hospital asap. The chance of the baby getting an infection goes up after the water breaks.

when my water broke it didnt feel like i was peeing....it felt more like someone put a bunch of water in my vagina and when i stood up it all just kinda fell out....i also felt a "pop"....i dont know if everyone else does....but when my water broke i automatically started getting contractions every 3 minutes...within a half hour it was every minute....oh and i think my underwear kinda had a mucusy-bloodyness of some sort on it too....if you have any blood you should go to the hospital or doctor and have them check to see if your water did break or not

You peed for a long time, but is there still a trickle now?
Your water doesn't really break entirely like that-you should feel some drops still coming out.
Call your doctor, though. You never know!

This sounds kinda gross, but I SWEAR the hospital OB nurses say to smell the liquid. See if it smells like urine. Apparently, amniotic fluid (when your water breaks) smells nothing like urine.
Congrats on the baby!

Is fluid still leaking? Once your water breaks, it normally continues to trickle.
Call your doc- he or she can take a sample of the fluid that is present and see if it is amniotic fluid.

When your waterbreaks you will feel like a sudden relief in your stomach. It may have but I really doubt it, call your doctor for sure. And good Luck to you!
