You may be surprised by this answer, but I've found that if I go to the children/youth department of the library, the books written for "young adults" are tremendous. They are just as clever and sharp as "adult books," plus they are really current and up to date with topics.

From the American Library Assoc., here are the top ten best books for 2006 for YA:

Akbar, Said Hyder and Burton, Susan. - Come Back to Afghanistan: A California Teenager's Story.

Bartoletti, Susan Campbell. - Hitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler's Shadow.

Buckhanon, Kalisha. - Upstate.

Green, John. -Looking for Alaska.

Lynch, Chris. - Inexcusable.

Meyer, Stephanie. - Twilight: A Novel.

Vaughan, Brian K. - Runaways: Volume 1

Westerfeld, Scott. - Peeps.

Wooding, Chris. - Poison.

Zusak, Markus. - I Am the Messenger

It kind of depends on what you are in to. It would have been nice if you would have listed a genre of any type... but I will try to work with it.

I just read "A Child Called It" by David Pelzer. It is a true story about a young boy who is abused horribly by his mother. It is the third worse case known in California.

I also love all of the books written by Anne Bishop. That is fantasy about love, passion, magic, and good finally getting through to the people of the darkness. I don't normally like fantasy, but those books are good. They are called the "Black Jewels Trilogy" if you want to read those.

Also, I read "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown a few months ago. (I don't know how to underline in this thing). Dan Brown is the same author of "The Da Vinci Code" in case you were wondering. Those are all very good books.

Good luck finding what you need!

I don't know what you usually read but if you haven't read Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, you definatly should, he has at least one other really good book but the name slips my mind. This one is really one of those books that just grabs you by the heart strings, oh yeah , the other one is called the five people you meet in heaven. its basic story is about how you affect the lives of people you maybe didn't ever really know...strongly suggest both books....good reading

Depends on how old you are. Potter books, if you haven't read them and they are age appropriate. There are some great new biographies on historical figures, if you're into that.
