Some good topics for an argumentive essay are on things like: Socrates( EUTHYPHRO I and II on the arguments of what piety is.)
You can do it on the Government supporting or banning same sex marriages.
Also stem cell research,etc.

How about the need for affordable health insurance for all, the need to stop pollution of our environment, the need to have a balanced government budget, or any political issues such as U.S. policies in the Middle East, lack of focus on the problems of the "lost continent" of Africa. Just to name a few.
