Depending on the reasons for using such a device, I would also recommend UV devices to detect counterfeit currency. These can also be picked up at office supply stores such as Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, Etc...They are not very expensive, however they are more then pens would be. (Approx $30-100 depending on model/brand)

I work in a bank and we get them from any office supply store - if you want to order on line try quill.com - they are very reasonable.
