Yeah, for whatever reason, the baggy of water hanging in the doorway does seem to help. But the best thing to do is to keep as many of them as you can from reproducing, which they do at an alarming rate. If you go to the feedstore, or even a big home and garden place like Home Depot, you can get disposable fly traps. They have an fly attractant in them already, and you just add water and hang the trap up. Flies will fly into the trap through small holes and then they can't get out, so they drown. It is amazing home many flies you can catch in those things! And all the flies that you catch outside don't get into the house. This method is all natural - no toxic sprays or poisons. One warning, though: The traps will have an unpleasant odor, so hang them from the house and patio. There are also non-disposable fly traps that work on the same principal, but you have to empty out the dead flies when it fills up, and that's a bit too disgusting for my taste. With the disposable ones, you just bag up the whole thing and throw it in the trash.

A product called Fly Bait. It looks like sugar crystals and is usually colored a yellow or a blue. It is sprinkled where flies congregate, trash bags, dustbins etc. It attracts them, they land on it and the die. I wouldn't use it in the house except behind cabinets. But once the outside flies are gone they won't be coming in which is better for you not to have to use spray pesticides in the house..
Bad side which is extremely important: This stuff will kill anything from flies, roaches, rats, animals and humans. You have to be very careful that pets or people cannot get near it. A few crystals can kill a small dog in a matter of minutes. I don't want to think about what it can do to a kid. But with safe handling, as in sprinkle some in the trash bin, not on top where the wind can blow it, or if pets or children are not an issue, this stuff works wonders. Purchase at a feed store.
