Check with some shelters, churches, etc. A lot of them have programs that will help you with find a roof over your head. Do you have any family or friends that you could stay with until you get your cash built up and your credit fixed? Also, find someone who needs a roommate who will let you split the rent but not be on the lease. After you do that for awhile, you and the roommate go to the landlord and explain that you were paying half and maybe then you will get a chance to get your own place.

Try to find a landlord you can talk to face-to-face and explain your situation to. You'd probably have better luck than with a property management company that will just run the credit report and go by that.

If all else fails, maybe you could find someone who needs a roommate to split the rent.

Have your credit pulled and figure out why your credit is bad. Maybe there is something on there that you can wipe out and improve your score.
It's difficult to say without seeing your credit.
