All-time greatest? Beatles -- hands down! They were there with the early, sappy love song stuff (I Wanna Hold Your Hand) and they lead the way into the Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds era. And, they jumped into the political/war debate (Imagine). They sold millions of records -- and still do.
Their individual talents were proven as each became successful after they went their separate ways. Definitely the Beatles!

The answers you get will certainly reflect the age of the responder. I'm 56 and have been a music junkie since I was 6...so I'm celebrating my Musical Golden Anniversary this year. For a good part of those years I worked as a DJ and played the music on the radio for several hours a day. I love everything from alternative to country to pop to rock. The big-band music from Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and others was incredible in its day. I listened with my Grandpa. American bands from the 60's such as Beach Boys, and the Byrds were excellent, and the British Invasion brought great groups like Yardbirds, Cream, Stones, Led Zep, etc. Green Day is very, very good, but U2 is even better. :) But none of them, in my opinion, outshone the Beatles during their relatively brief period together. They influenced millions of people and countless future musicians, many of them are making the music today that we all enjoy.
