People who are home schooled (well SOME People) usually finish school more faster. I mean it's up to Them. They could finish 7Th grade in like 4 months. And finish 8th grade in the summer. Then do 9th grade for 4 months. And they get biig breaks. I know a home school-er who finished college when she was 16. But some people can draaag it out soo long cuz they cant concentrate cuz their play station is in the next room or their baby brother is watching t.v. I am home shcooled and I finished a month before all my friends got out. And when everyone was in school My family and I took a big break and went to Disney world and are thinking of going to new york this November. it has its ups but the it has it's downs. Like it gets boring w/ out friends and being w/ your bro 24.7!! But if it makes you smarter just depends on the persons type really.
I watch a DVD and that is what teaches me and my mom can help explain. But I hate the days my mom talks on the phone all day. She gives no help and cooperation. There are groups you could work in or just by your self. Some people do school Monday Thru thursday and Friday is either field trips, cleaning house or just a break.
but I have TONS and TONS of friends and this works out a whhole lot 4 me cuz I have more time for my friends like on weekends? Because I dont have home work on weekends. So instead of doing work on the weekend I get to spend time w/ my friendsq! And I saty in my pj's

depends on how their homeschooling is applied. Some homeschooling is gathered into groups and do socialize.. and some parents arent the teachers. it can definately work out and be a great thing.. but I find it always depends on how hard their "teacher" works and what they put into it. If socializing is an important thing for the family, then they are going to focus some of their time on socializing aspects. If knowledge is their main concern, then their teachers will just fill their brains..
homeschooling doesnt always tend to be the parents job. Those parents just dont believe in the government schooling and have found an alternative. I agree with them as the school system is discouraging me these days.. Although my daughter is in french immersion school and it was hard to find a decent school, but i made the effort and she loves it. (Canadian public school but in french)

Homeschoolers as a whole win a disproportionate amount of spelling and geography bees and other academic competitions and generally score higher on standardized achievement tests. If you take the time to talk to them individually you will find they can carry on an intelligent conversation with adults as well as other kids, they tend to know who they are moreso than traditionally schooled kids, they have time to pursue what they are truly talented in because they are not tied to a traditional school schedule.
As far as socialization, please do a google search on "No Thank You, We Don't Believe In Socialization". Homeschoolers think you all who believe they are not socialized are a joke. As a matter of fact, it is the biggest joke amongst homeschoolers while they are together socializing so much they have to be careful to have time for school.

I homeschooled my two youngest children for two years (3rd - 5th grade for one, 5th to 7th grade for the other). They tested a year ahead when they went back to public school, were found to be well-adjusted, and did well--for a while.
After they went back to traditional school, they started getting into trouble (peer pressure). This was not the case while being homeschooled - and they did associate with a lot of kids (sports, Boys and Girls Club, church, and around the neighborhood).

I think they are better off education wise because they can go at their own pace. I also think that they would be socially dysfunctional. School is full of a lot of drama and without experiences with that, yeah, they will be happier but they might not be able to handle work with other people. Teasing is something stressful yet it allows you to grow. Worse things like drama, betrayal, and competition come after that so it would be extremely difficult without dealing with the little stuff like teasing.
Also they lack the experience of working with different teachers and on teams with different people because they will just be with their parents and siblings and not learning and dealing with other people.
I think it's okay for some people. Just isn't for me though.

Nationally, they test out two years ahead of their same age peers who go to government schools/indoctrination and socialization centers.
No truth the nonsense that they suffer socially. Home-schooling families often form groups for that purpose, as well as other opportunities for peer interaction through churches and community activities.
A friend of mine had to drive her previously home-schooled daughter to college for the first TWO years because she was not old enough to get a drivers license.

Lucky...exceptionally smarter, well equipped for goals and careers, fortunate to have lived above the social norms.....have a much higher maturity level and sense of responsibility. Unfortunately the "dumbed-down" public school flunkies tend to be jealous and enjoy trying to belittle them to make themselves feel better.

I say they can be smarter because they are given individual attention and the can learn at their own pace. But they lack social skills because they aren't really socializing with other kids like you would in a public school.

Our neighbor kids are home-schooled. The mother sits in the house all day and the kids wander around town with some disturbing friends. The mother uses drugs and lets her kids smoke! I think homeschooling is a sham!!!!

It will depend on the person. I have known several who were quick witted, knowledgeable, skilled, articulate, and socially competent.
They have learned "how to learn". This is a skill sadly lacking in too many of our public schools.
