5/4x + 1/2 = 1/2x + 3/2
=5/4x - 1/2x = 3/2 - 1/2

4/3 or 1.333 is the correct answer. Group your x's on one side and your numbers on the other like this:
5/4x-1/2x=3/2-1/2
Change 1/2 x to 2/4x and subtract like this
5/4x-2/4x=3/2-1/2
3/4x=2/2 or 1
use the reciprocal of 3/4 which is 4/3 and multiply to each side
4/3 (3/4x)= 1x 4/3
x=4/3 or 1.333

This question could be read differently!
Is it 5/4 lots of x or 5 divided by 4x.
In this answer I have assumed the second as everyone else has answeered the question the first way
Ambiguous questions often have several answers!
first get rid of the fractions - multiply all terms by 4x
5 + 2x = 2 + 6x now get the x's on one side - move the smaller ones
5 = 2 + 4x
3 = 4x
x = 3/4
