Oh I love this question --
The first record I can remember having is a record by Juice Newton and the song was Queen of Hearts
I remember also having one by Queen --- the song was Another one Bites the Dust and my mom would play it over and over for me on our record player, I think I was like five or something -- Man I miss those times.
I also remember being about 8 or so and getting Purple Rain by Prince and the record was actually purple and I thought it was the coolest thing ever !!!!

For us a bit older than you folks...........
My first album was a 45 rpm "soundtrack" from the film, "Annie Get Your Gun" starring Betty Hutton. My parents took me to see that incredible musical and I was blown away by Hutton tearing up the screen with her singing. That started a lifelong adoration of BH that continues as strong today as way back then. Of course I have all her films and records and tv appearances. I was blessed to have the opportunity to have brunch with her in 1975 and two subsequent visits to her temporary home in Hollywood the same year. Also saw her in Vegas at the Desert Inn and WOW! Anyone who saw her interviewed by Robert Osborne on Turner Classic Movies about five years ago found her unforgettable. Rent or buy the DVD of Annie Get Your Gun and no matter what your age you will email me and say "thank you." You're welcome!

The first 45 I had was Tony Orlando's Tie A Yellow Ribbon
The first album I owned was one I saved up for....ready....Goofy Greats (It had Purple People Eater and Yellow Polka Dot Bikini on it!)
I am WAY older than you!
The 45's I still have most of...my albums however were lost in a flood...too bad as I'm sure my kids would enjoy Goofy Greats...but I have a feeling that they haven't released in in CD form yet....oh well
Thanks for the stroll down memory lane :o)

Sadly, I was a freshman in high school when those came out. I don't even think they solde 45's in your day or 8 tracks
Mine were...
Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
Thats the way of the world - Earth Wind & Fire
Hair of the dog - Nazareth

I got my first record for my 12th birthday.
It was Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water"
Though it's been replaced, first by a cassette then a CD it still remains a favorite of mine. Oh...and I still do have the original record too.
