Well it is an '87 olds cutlass ciera and it has has this problem before. Last time this happened i had the fuel pump replaced and a new battery put in. Both are about 1 year old now. Only a couple of days ago it was working fine then i replaced the radio and the rear speakers and now it refuses to start. My radio, lights and other things that run off the battery are fine i just can't start the car. I'm going to try and jump it later today.

I would check the radio that you just put in, to make sure it isn't drawing on the battery, even when it's not on. something is drawing the power. Normally, I would also say starter draw, except that you just did this other electrical work. check both. Good luck.

you may need to have the charging system checked , it sounds like the battery is not either getting or holding a full charge also since the problem occured after the stereo install you should check for any thing drawing too much current from the battery.possibly a short or the power wires are hooked wrong and the unit is not shutting down all the way and is killing the battery when it is supposed to be off.

Sounds like you probably put in that radio wrong. This caused a slight short which is draining your batter so it does not have enough juice to started it.

Either that or you starter went out and it just happened to be at the same time that you put in the radio.

Those are pretty much your to options though either you aren't getting enough power to fully engage your starter or they solenoid on your starter went out so it is not fully engaging.
Since it started to have the problem right after you did electrical work my money is on you did that wrong and it is draining your battery.

a temp fix to this is after you jump your car when you turn it off unhook a battery cable so that it won't drain the battery. I used to do that with my 73 cutless when I was tracking down a short in it. I even went on some dates with it like that. got to love high school when you can get away with stuff like that on dates and they don't care.

Charge the battery and make sure there's no more than 1/4 ampere (250 milliamperes) being drawn from the battery while the car is parked overnight.

you extremely do not might desire to do all that stuff to it, fairly using particular oil and spark plugs and something Robert says to each question. in simple terms get the battery on a battery charger, extremely of attempting to allow the alternator charge it up. The alternator isn't made to be a battery charger and you're unfavourable the alternator. as quickly as the battery is charged, circulate to any areas keep and that they are able to verify your battery, your alternator, and your starter, many times for unfastened. BTW, it does not take lots to play the radio or placed the lights fixtures on. It probable takes 4X as lots to start the automobile.

Try to jump start it and get it to like an Autozone or someone that sells batteries and they can test your eletctrical system for you. Do that before spending a bunch of un-needed money.
