I had already posted this question once in a different category, and got weak repsonse, so I thought I would try again in the cateogory I'm comparing with

I got all excited about the '06 civic si, but I want something cheaper. So I go looking at older rsx's, because I've liked those for awhile, but I want something cheaper. I want to get a small car with a 5 or six speed manual trans, that will throw me back in my seat when I hammer through the gears, that I can pay cash for and not feel bad about. I would also like it to be reliable for long trips. I know you tuner guys have some ideas, cause not all of you buy brand new '06 civic si's, or new rsx's.

Whats good out there in my price range?

:-)

I don't think there is anything out there for your price range that will do what you want. For your price you get one or the other. Choose performance or choose economy. For performance look into a used foxbody mustang with a 5.0, they are readily available and cheap to upgrade, but the fuel economy is lacking.
For economy find a nice used civic, you won't be thrown back in your seat but you'll get decent mpg.
If you want something more save up a bit more and go for seomthing in the 10-15K range, at that point a used miata with some upgrades or an rx-7 with some upgrades would give both performance and some fuel economy, although not 30mpg economy.

It's all relative, what you think is fast, we might not think it's fast, and what you consider economy we might not. So maybe set some other perameters, like 20+mpg and enough to run a quater mile in 15 seconds. Not fast to me, but then again I'd like to get 20+ mpg, see what I mean.

not all "tuners" are like that. that's what we'd talk over with as a "ricer" extremely than a genuine tuner. all people that knows something approximately motorsports knows that there are few vehicles that would even start to grant an honest sportbike a run for the money. on the different hand, i comprehend of a few vehicles working legally on the line right here that would touch mid to extreme 10's interior the a million/4 mile. in comparison to my R6 inventory a million/4 mile time of 11.a million, this is a honest race.

Older Miatas and Civics are good, but with the money you're looking at spending, you probably won't have enough to upgrade anything.
