That is my guideline for living my life. I am not a regular church goer or extremly religous, but that is my rule to go by.

I think the Ten Commandments are a good guide for living a relatively "honest" life.
But I think you have to do a lot more than just not murder, perjure yourself or commit adultery to lead a "good" life.
To lead a "good" life, I think you have to go the extra mile that Jesus talks about:
- Love your neighbor, and everyone are your neighbors including your enemies
- Feed the hungry
- Give drink to the thirsty
- Clothe the naked
- Shelter the homeless
- Visit the sick
- Visit those in prison
- Bury the dead
- Live with faith
- Live with hope
- Live with love
To name a few ways to live a "good" life.
With love in Christ.

You know, Dean, it probably couldn't hurt. Yet, so many times I here folks screaming about these precious, sacred TEN COMMANDMENTS, and all the while, I personally would be surprise if 2% could even quote all 10 let alone in order. So, if I may answer your question with a question, why are they so damned important when so many folks don't even have a clue as to their content and intent?

I don't disagree, I think that if more people lived their lives in accordance with the ten commandments, we would live in a much better place.

Everyone knows that. Its following what we know to be right thats difficult.
And your awareness of the conflicts in the middle east is sadly uniformed. For example, how do you explain Muslims killing Muslims in Iraq, if religion is the cause of conflict?

The only ones that really matter are the ones about stealing, killing, cheating on your spouse and lying on somebody.
That "graven image" ship has long since sailed.
