cement primer...just look on the back of the can to see if it works on cement and also one word of caution...making your floors slick in a laundry room might be a bad idea. put some sand in the paint if you paint over the primer or put it in the primer if you don't paint. that will make it abrasive so you won't slip and fall on a wet soapy floor. just a thought...good luck

the surface must be clean and dry and then prepared with Drylok Etch or muriatic acid. This makes the cement feel like fine sandpaper. It must be slightly rough in order for the paint to stick. It should NOT be perfectly smooth. I used it on my laundry room floor a few years ago and it worked out great. The only problem is you need to do it in small sections, then rinse it off with plenty of water. It needs to be WELL VENTILATED because it smells pretty strong and burns your lungs. After it is dry then you can paint it with paint made specifically for cement floors.

Use a latex primer. Make sure there isn't a sealer on the floor before you start painting. If there is, the floor will be slightly glossy. The sealer will have to be thoroughly sanded before putting the primer over it. If there is no sealer, dampen the floor and prime it. Then paint it when the primer is dry. It would be best to apply to two coats of paint and make sure to get a floor paint. It is specially formulated for foot traffic.
Good luck.

There is a cleaner for cement floors that is a mild acid and they use it all the time in schools. Ask at a paint store or Lowe's and they will know what it is. If not there, go to an industrial cleaners supply store and they will have it. Good luck!

I painted my floor, with enamel paint, (grey) in the basement, and never had to worry about a primer...
I swept and vacumed it, and mopped it...then after 24 hours to make sure the floor was dry, I painted it with a roller and a pan.
I put on 3 coats and I only had to repaint once after a flood from our washer when it overflowed... (Paint will lift with water!)...
I wish you well..

just make sure it's relatively smooth ... there's not much prep work involved from my experience. my parents had their cement floor sealed, so you can see the cement through the coating. it's actually really cool and modern looking and the colors are nice.
hope that helps some ...

paint stores will have a product called tile clad.it is an epoxy, water, oil bleach, nothing will ever mess with it.it is shinny but not a slip hazzard.a cat can't scatch it.it is used in auto shops, and locker rooms mostly.all that they said about cleaning was pretty close, but this is a industrial coating not a weekend warrior coating.fumes are bad ,results are super.union painter 20 yrs.

I used tsp when I painted my basement floor. The main thing is to make sure it's clean and dry. You might even want to use garge floor paint. It tends to hold up to a lot of abuse.

There is a product made by Rustoleum that is made specifically for basement floors (I used it on mine). You just have to make sure the floor is clean and dry first.
