My daughter turns 3 next week, we have an Elmo birthday planned, but here are some other ideas we tossed around:
~A tea party, have all the girls dress up in fancy dresses. You can even give a tea cup thats kid sized to the guests ($1 tree has them, what a cheap gift!)
~An artist's party. *Warn parents ahead of time to have kids bring an old Tshirt or something they can use as a smock* Get big sheets of paper, lots of finger paints, crayons, etc. Make a cake that looks like it has paint dribbled on it. Have an art show at the end of the party and give prizes for "best" pictures, everyone can win a different title and get a little trinket to take home.
~A summer-sprinkles party. They're too little for a pool party, so how about giving each guest a rubber ducky to take home and turning on a couple of sprinklers to play in? You can play Simon Says or Redlight-Greenlight under the sprinklers.
A misc. idea we did last year for my son: if you have a digital camera, take a picture of each kid with the birthday child, print them real quick, and have the kids make a photo frame as a take home item. We got that foam stuff from the craftstore and some stickers that went with the birthday theme and the kids (and som eparents) had a GREAT time making the frames. I got 6 sheets for about $1 and cut them in half to make the front and backing of the frame, then cut a hole for a 4x6 photo (did all this ahead). All the kids had to do was glue the picture to the backing, glue that to the front, and decorate.
There's a magazine my mom gets called Family Fun, I think put out by Disney, try searching for it, they have lots of party ideas in past issues. Enjoy the big day!!!

Birthday parties are fun for kids, but I always really enjoyed giving my kids original parties--we had dinosaur digs, Secret Garden parties, a group trip to the zoo, Detective Parties (complete with clues and a hunt to track down the pinata in the back yard.)
In short, I'm a fan of having fun while you are being a parent, as long as the child is having more fun than you are. A really good source for party ideas--themes, games, refreshments, everything you need is FamilyFun Magazine. The magazine has a website and party ideas are at this one:
http://familyfun.go.com/parties/:
Going to your local library and looking up past issues would be very worth your while, too. I can't recommend it highly enough!
Happy Birthday to your Dear Daughter and Happy Labor Day to her mother! (The Labor Day thing is something my mother always says to the mothers of the birthday children--we have something to commemorate, too.)

How about Strawberry Shortcake, or maybe Raggedy Ann. It is cute and original! You could maybe draw and cut out a big strawberry and then make little seeds for it and play kind of like pin the tail on the donkey with it. And then if you wanted 2 do Raggedy Ann you could draw and cut out a rag doll face and then make little triangle noses and play the same game with it like that. For a drink at the Strawberry Shortcake cuold be strawberry lemonade. And you could makea regular cake although you could put white icing and decorate it with strawberrys. You cou;d also draw strawberrys and tape them 2 the walls for decorations. For Raggedy Ann You could make a pitcher of red Kool-Aid and make a cake and put red icing on it and in white icing put Happy Birthday! Well thats all I can think of.

well....it all depends on what she's in to....maybe CareBears, Barney, Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer.....anything really! Maybe for a Dora Party....you could have a scavenger hunt....give the kids a map, etc. of course, you'd have to make it really easy. And there's always the princess thing....have everyone come in dresses and "princess clothes", have them make jewelry with beads and yarn...you could make them hats out of party hats and with fabric running down from the top. Anyway, i hope that helps!

She is not going to know if she is at a football game or a birthday party.
She is too young to know things like that yet.
