I just had my first baby about six weeks ago. I stopped bleeding around four weeks, and now all of a sudden I'm bleeding again. I'm currently breastfeeding, so I do not think its my menstural cycle? Can anyone tell me why my bleeding stopped for awhile and now its back again?

That can happen... especially while breastfeeding. I did that for 3 moths after having my now 5 month old. And now when I get "periods" it is very random. I will bleed (very lightly) for about a week.. then stop for two.... start... Last time I went 6 weeks with nothing. When breastfeeding your cycles are very abnormal, but be careful.. When I was nursing my now 22 month old I only had two periods in 8 months.. One in November and one in March.. In July I found out I was pregnant with my now 5 month old. So even with the absence of regular periods you can still get pregnant!

I am currently breastfeeding my 6 month old daughter and I can say i had the same thing. Well breastfeeding you can have a so wacked out period. For example Istoppe bleeding for 1week and started bleeding again for 4 days...then nothing for 3 months. Now like clock work every 2nd of the month i have my menstral cycle.

Breastfeeding gives wacky periods so don't count on normal for awhile...i'm ewaiting for my cycle to change again like with my first child.

maybe it will, maybe it won't

When I had my daughter I did the same thing, It is your period so don't worry about it. Some women will bleed 4 weeks and go right to their period some women bleed for a while and stop for a week or so and start their period it just depends I bleed for 4 weeks stoped and then a week and a half I started my period.
hope this helps. If not and you still need more advice call your Dr.

It could actually be your period but it could also just be normal bleeding from having a baby. WIth my second I stopped & started about 3 or 4 times before that firstbit was over with & had my regular period a month later. Also, know that you CAN have a period while breastfeeding, so it could be that.

Your period can return at any time even if you are breastfeeding. Your period will return sooner if you supplement at all or regularly miss feedings. There's no way to tell when your period will return and this is actually why some moms get pregnant as early as 3 months after childbirth.

It could be your period, or maybe not. Just keep an eye for it. Also, when my period returned I had my period very frequently. It came 2x a month which was crazy.

My daughter just had a baby in march. She did the same thing. Her Dr. told her that you will bleed for about 2-4 weeks, quit and then you will go right on into your period. Well she bled and bled and bled. So we went back to the Dr. and they told her that her hormone level had bottomed out. That her body didn't know rather to bleed or cry. They said it's common this happens after giving birth. They put her on Yasmin birth control to help level her hormones. It worked.

It could be a period, even though you are breastfeeding. If it is light bleeding then it could be an extionsion of your postpartum bleeding. Your body definitly goes through some wierd things after having a baby

Your system is wacky right now, it will continue to be on and off until it gains its cycle back. I don't want you to worry too much. Watch the cycle, document the pain and the number of days you are bleeding and if it seems abnormal then go to your ob/gyn. Good luck and congrats Mom!

Call your OBGYN ~ but I think you're probably fine though. I had messed up cycles both times after my daughters were born. I was breastfeeding too, and both times, my cycle basically stopped for the entire year I was breastfeeding.

Don't worry too much about it, but call your doctor just to double check.

your hormones are probably out of whack. The same thing happened to my wife. Her doctor put her on a low level birth control pill that is safe for breastfeeding mothers and she hasn't had a cycle since. Our son is 8 months.
