Well, the first thing to do is obviously empty the bag, or dirt container. Thoroughly clean what you can with warm water and whatever cleaner you may have. If you have access to a compressor, blow the whole vacuum off with air (be sure to do this outside). If you can, you may want to wash the cloth bag that holds the paper filter bag. Install a new bag, or insert dirt continer. Then, spray a bit of tissue paper with some perfume (perhaps an old bottle that isn't used much anymore) and simply vacuum it up. The tissue will release a good smell whenever you use it! As the perfume wears off of the tissue, reapply a bit more to another piece, and vacuum that up when neccessary. If you don't want to use perfume, I think Kirby Co. makes a special solution for this purpose.

Good luck.

Stevo.

Well, the first thing I would do, is look at the brushes. You are probably burning the belt up, because its turning and the brushes arent, because of lint or string build up around the outside bearings.. Or, you can have string build up under the rubber belt itself.

Take off the bottom, and snap out the brush assembly...(provided its an upright and the brushes are able to come out, some models you have to dissasemble a lot more to do this).

Then, when you get it popped out, start to clear the string and hairs around the bearings on the ends and the slot that holds the bearings and clips. Then take a knife and cut all hairs and strings off the brushes... Snap back in with a new belt if its wore.

Now, take off the bag...

Discard bag and before you put a new one in, take outside, and turn the vacumn on! This will blow out all the dust and debris that is in the "neck" of it, and you can clear the exhaust so that it will be fresher smelling. Now, put on a new belt.

I wish you well..

They tend to do that after awhile. It's normal.

Change the bag. Before you put the new one in, sprinkle a little bit of room deoderizer in the bag. About a teaspoon or so. The powder type of carpet freshner would work the best. Shake the bag so the powder does not just go to the bottom ans sit there.

As you use the machine, the air going through it will add you favorite fragrence to the room.

Remove the bag that's in there and replace with a new one. Also, add a scented drier sheet to the new one. This will remove any smell left in the vacuum cleaner itself and will put a nice scent in the air when you vacuum.

mine is really old and it smells sometimes, like the motor is dying or something. i'm not sure exactly, but it could be the age of your vacuum. just get a newone! or, if it's just stinky from the filter or bag, get a fresh one. not only does that get rid of icky smells, it also cleans better because it has more power.

if you want you can use those scented carpet powders - that might help with the smell inside the vacuum as you clean your carpets.

hope that helps. =)

Find a scent oil you like, pour some on a paper towel, fold it into a narrow strip and place it in the bottom of your vacuum canister. It will make the exhaust smell much better and spreads through your whole house. (So be sure you like the smell)
