I have a AMD Sempron 2200+ 1.49GHz. It keeps on freezing several times a day even with minimal work load. I got 368MB RAM on the machine, still freezes. Should I increase RAM or what?

This is the disadvantage of AMD cpu's in comparisson to Intel processors..

They produce so much heat..You must make sure ur cpu is well ventilated, and make sure your fan is running good...

System freezing and crashes most of the time, are hardware related...

hope this helps you..

Check your heatsink. Is it warm? good, it should be. If its cold you have a problem. Remove it, scrape off any heatsink pad or compound, apply fresh compound and reinstall carefully, ensuring that it makes full contact with the surface.

Any processor, intel or amd will have problems if the heatsink is improperly affixed.

If the heatsink isn't the issue, most of the time its either a BIOS problem or a memory problem. Swap out your memory sticks with a different set and see if the problem persists.

Check your power supply. Amazingly, most issues are fixed by replacing the cheap power supply with a quality one, and its a fairly easy/inexpensive fix compared to replacing RAM, the CPU, or a reformat/reinstall.

Update Windows, all of your drivers and firmware, and update your BIOS.
If it were a cooling issue, your computer would turn off, not freeze.
AMD processors produce way less heat than Intel processors because they operate on a lower voltage.
It's possible that Windows is stopping up on you, in which case it could be that your hard drive is beginning to go (your system's old enough that a low quality hard drive should be around it's lifespan limit)
If it's Windows, it could also be repaired by simply formatting your hard drive and reinstalling Windows.

Good luck fixing your problem!

Run a virus scan and see how dat goes..
If you got XP on ur system, it needs a minimum of 256 mb Ram to run smoothly.. so u shouldn't be having a problem there..
There could be a problem with your hard drive.. Scan your hard drive for errors.. There might be something wrong with your hard drive.. Get it checked by a some guy.. If its still under warranty.. send it back to the shop u bought it from..
It sounds very much like a hard drive problem !
