Well I would wonder what exactly you mean by your statement. Taken literally, I would have to assume your DVD ROM will not allow you to read files; but add to that that you specifically stated it will not play MP3's would suggest that maybe your default music application isn't functioning properly. Too many variables with the information you gave to give you a proper answer . . . sorry.

Assuming your operating system is windows and the mp3 disk is good, try opening Windows Explorer. Navigate to the CD/DVD drive. If it lists the mp3 files, select all (Ctrl + A) and right click on the top most and select Add to current playlist or Open with Windows Media Player.

well what happens when the dvd disc contains mp3's?
