I am sorry but I don't know the age in Michigan. A lawyer told me that in Alaska a child could choose at 13. At 12 the courts up here will listen to what the child has to say. It may be similar in Michigan. Good luck to you.

I'm from Michigan, when my parents were divorcing they told my mom that I had to be at least 12 years old to pick which parent to live with. That was 16 years ago. I'm sure it is the same.

I don't belive a child really have rights, unless abuse was involved. Best to talk to a lawyer.

I do not know but in NE it has taken until my daughter has turned 13 before he has asked to talk to her regarding visits. I've heard alot of people say it is around 13 all over the states, but just call a lawyer that offers free consultation.

18,however at 13 a child's preference can be expressed to the court. The court does take into consideration the child's request and the child's reasoning, however the court still has final say and is obliged to act in what he feels is in the best interests of the child.the child can request a lawyer be appointed to represents his or her interest.
