I assume you are referring to a computer network. An "Open Network" is to the WWW. World Wide Web. Which just means your network has a connection to the Internet. A "Closed Network" is two or more computers connected together and in which they communicate with each other, but does not have a connection to the WWW. It is a private network. In the private network can be an Intranet. "Intra" mean inside. It is "inside" the Internet, which can be confusing as that makes it sound like the Intenet is "around" the network. Which is actually is. When you have a "private" network, this means it is "inside" the Internet, without an opening to the Internet. It is a "closed" network, only communicating with each individual computer conected each other and not any "outside" computer.

The "Internet" is a world wide network of computes all communicating with each other. You can download files and programs, send e-mail around the world, play games with people at computers around the world, go to business sites and buy products, etc.

An "intranet" is an individuals own private collection of computers all comunicating with each other, which enables sending files, programs, e-mails, visting websites which are available for those on the intranet but not available to any on the Internet. It is all a very small community of computers communicating with each other but not with the WWW.

You can have both a intranet and a internet connection. The intranet is on the local network which is private, while the internet is very public with anybody in the world able to access it.

Hope this helped clarify things a bit for you, have a nice day.
