i have an onbord sound card. there are 3 outputs one for speakers, one for mic, one one for a line in(what is this?). can i connect a 5.1 channel speakers to the sound card or i have to install another one. i have realtek high defination audio>plz answer me

I think you might have the same onboard system that I use. MIne are coloured.
Top=Blue - Fronts
Middle=Green - Rears
Bottom=Pink(red) - Center and Sub

There should be some icon near your clock that allows you to set each output. The middle and bottom ones can either be set for mic & line in OR rear & center/sub. You can only use one configuration at a time. So it's either the mic only or the rear speakers. I dont use the inputs for anything so I leave them as speaker out.

The icon i'm talking about isnt the windows speaker looking thingy but something that is installed with your soundcard. When you double click on it you should see a bunch of tabs at the top. Mine say sound effect, equalizer, speaker configuration, etc. If you click on speaker configuration you can choose the 5.1 speaker output.
