Why do liberals say that we are in the war in Iraq for oil? If that is true, then why are oil prices so high? If we wanted to control the world's oil supply, then why is Iraq free to sell its oil to whoever it wants? The U.S. oil companies buy oil from Arab nations, from OPEC. We don't own the oil fields over there. We have investments in them, just like other countries have investments in them too, or in U.S. busineses.
It seems that when people run into things they don't comprehend, they make accusations and call names. They call America and Bush oil mongering blood sucking murderers (ok, so that's a little exagerated, but you get the idea.) I've been to Iraq, and I haven't seen any masive amounts of stole oil heading towards the U.S.

it is the only corrupt reason liberals can think of to explain an invasion under Republican leadership. Forget about the fact that even liberal democrats, (like John Kerry), voted FOR the use of force.
The US imports most of its oil from
1-Canada, 2-Mexico, 3-Saudi Arabia, 4-Venezuela, 5- Nigeria with Iraq being a distant 6th. Oh, and we BUY that oil, not steal it.

The reason for high oil prices is;
1- Supply & demand, as China, and India, along with many 3rd world countries continue to develop, the demand for oil is growing, the oil producing countries are not able to outpace the demand, therefore oil prices have skyrocketed, and no, the big oil companies, while they do make more profits when oil prices go up, have nothing to do with the price of oil/gasoline escalating.
2 - Fear & instability in the middle east driving up the futures on crude, which is controlled by traders, (investors).

I don't know if it was all about oil, but Bush and Co. ignored valid targets of regime change in favor of a country that was no threat to us. Haiti, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. would have all been just as valid, if not more so, than Iraq. Not to mention the fact that he made up intelligence (or had it made up) just to go into Iraq.

A couple reasons that he could have done this are:
1) Oil. Just because it wasn't successful doesn't mean that wasn't a driving force.

2) Succeed where daddy failed. See Oedipus complex.

3) Our military was already nearby. Not so much an excuse as a convenience.

4) Easy to blame. They had already in the past attacked and they were Arab (although Saddam was a very secular leader); which would have made it a lot easier (and did make it a lot easier) to convince the American population that it was a good idea.

5) Zionism. The neocons that strongly pushed for this war are known Zionists that believe when the rule of Israel stretches from the Mediteranean to the Gulf Jesus will come again.

etc.

What a bunch of fascist right wing rhetoric in some of these answers. Some of you aren't Americans, your just Republicans or Democrats.

Bush constantly said we attacked Iraq due to 911 and to fight terrorism. He even said it in front of congress! What a lie. Iraq had NOTHING to do with 911 and the terrorists attack. Bin Laden, Al Queda, and terrorist which are mostly backed by Saudi money do most of the terrorist activity. The White house is in bed with the Saudi's financially so they are safe. Later he's recanted but he still gets away with that lie often. There was no reason to attack Iraq.

Of course this is for oil. Militarily they are already building bases in Iraq and that will be the centralized location for our country. Iran is probably next on the list. Can you imagine the prices if the U.S. oil companies own the 5th largest market in the world? That's billions of dollars. Why do you think there is no exit plan? Because there is no plan on exiting. Mission accomplished my ***.

The prices of the oil companies are NOT made from supply and demand; its created in the speculative futures market. If the wind blows they speculate that the cost of producing the oil will go up so they say they have to raise the prices. If the cost of making it is higher, why do their profits sky rocket. They are ripping off the american public. Why do you think the commercials from American oil say we have to decrease our need on FOREIGN oil. The auto industry also got screwed by the oil companies. The car companies need to start making cars that don't rely on oil. They were making electric cars in the 50's. If there were electric cars the oil companies would lose billions.

When Bush and all of these other "brave" Senators that voted for the war send their kids, then I'll embrace this war. It doesnt' take courage to send other kids to die. The greed for money is the root of all evil. Democrats are just as bad for not fighting harder against this war. It's an embarassment and 50 years from now people will be laughing at us.

Not all liberals say that. I don't. I think we went into Iraq specifically because of its geopolitical position. Dead center of the Eastern world, all five major rivers of the ME running through it (water is even more about power than oil, y'know)... I think 9-11 didn't have anything to do with it. It was planned before 9-11. Not to say 9-11 wasn't used by the government to jusitfy the invasion...

But since you think all liberals think one thing, let me return the favor and ask you, why do some Bush supporters say we're over there bringing Democracy to Iraq, and other cons spout nothing but 'kill 'em all'?

Maybe people's thoughts on both sides of this issue are a bit more complex than you indicate with your question.
