The most common problem is the switch the activates/deactivates the spin cycle when the lid is closed/open.

If you understand basic electrical wiring then you can bypass the switch by unscrewing the switch from the frame and splice the two wires connected to the switch together (wire nut). It takes about 10 minutes. Order a new switch.

BEWARE: The switch is a safety feature so children will not put their arms in the machine while it is spinning. I am the only person using that machine so I don't worry about safety.

If the bypass won't solve the problem then research your model and discover what type of drive you have. That is where the next problem would be.

If you are completely inexperienced at the aforementioned then completely disregard the advice and call a service man.

If it starts to spin and stops and is able to pump the water out then your tub is stuck. It could be nothing more than some clothing between the inner and outer tubs. If it does not pump the water out I would look at the age of the washer and, if more than 5 years old, replace it since it probably does not pay to repair it.

I have seen washers with two belts on the bottom...

One for spinning, and one for agitation.

You may have noticed a "burnt rubber smell", before this, as it may have either stretched the belt, (sometimes, but most often not), or it may have snapped the belt, (more likely scenario).

You have to tip the washer over, and see what you have to take off, to get to it, (bottom plate, sometimes you have to take off the back first, then the bottom, other times, just the bottom).

Thats a DIY job, you can do yourself...

I wish you well..

If u have a Fisher&Pykel
it will ALSO stop washing in abt 2 months.

In any case , u will have to replace the
power-supply BOARD , under the
control-panel.

your washer is 4-6 yrs old !
Good luck .

I don't think that would be a do-it-yourself type job

call a washer repair guy or get a new washing machine

it probably has a broken lid switch. most are wired where they will agitate with the lid open, but will not spin for safety reasons. check the lid switch & the plunger that activates it.
