I'm 14 now, when i was younger i heard about this game and hoe nice is it, my big brother played it on PS1 and when i tried to play it it was really hard for me, later (not before long time) I bought PS2 and the first game i bought was Tomb Raider: Legend, Oh my god i loved it so much and i played it 25h per day (lol), in this game of tomb raider, Lara's mother disappears and i search for her and things like that, and i could finish it.
Now my questions, what is the first story in tomb raider and has it something in common for the new part (Legend) or the other parts?
2.in this part Lara didn't find her mother and Amanda didn't die so i think there will be another part, do you?

well the first game is mainly about her being a great tomb raider...hence the name. She is called upon by a woman named Natla who sends her to find the Scion a legendry artifact that when used to its ultimate could destroy the world...and natla wants it...Only Lara does not know this till later. Lara travels to Peru and then africa and egypt on the hunt for the three peices of the scion. Soon she finds that Natla has turned the tables on her and has sent Pierre Dupont on the trial. When Lara finally finds the last peice Natla has found her and her henchmen take the peices. Lara stows away on their boat and awakes outside the legendary city of Atlantis. Her search brings her to find the Scion and reveals that Natla was one of the original holders of the Scion along with Tihocan and some other guy, and they were the leaders of the continent of Atlantis. Natla all those years ago tried to use the power of her third of the scion to bring a new species to earth. But tihocan finds out and the other two strip natla of her powers and her third of the scion freezing her in time and burying her. But the power of the scion overcomes them and Atlantis end up at the bottom of the ocean after the explosion. Years later Natla awakens and starts her company concealing her self n the modern world until the time is right. Lara awakens from the dream and finds Natla at her side, and Natla explains why the plan hadnt worked beforeand now with all three peices it couldnt fail. Natla is pushed into a crevice and lara escapes with the scion from atalantis and locks it up so humanity will never use the power of the scion to create anything against natures rules...its confusing but thats what its about

In the first game she is on a plane that crashes and she is the only one who survives. She then becomes an explorer like Indiana Jones and her wealthy family disowns her. That is the back story that is in the CD sleeve.
(Spoiler Alert)
The games story starts with Laura being enticed to go look for a piece of a three ring artifact. She finds it and opposition. She eventually learns that the three pieces were held by the three rulers of Atlantis. Two of them imprisoned the third and took away her ring because she was abusing it. Laura eventually learns that the woman who wanted her to get the artifact is the third ruler and she has to destroy her to save the world.
The first game is my favorite Tomb Raider game, game-play and story wise. I stopped after the third because it was incredibly difficult.
