In my printer guide it says to only use genuine epson cartridges because using a refill cartridge like they sell at staples for considerably less could affect print quality and even damage my printer.

Is this really true can the cheaper printer cartridges damage it?

yes, they can.
I fixed printers for 7 years, and have had my share of repairs and cleanups that were caused by aftermarket (refilled) ink and toner cartridges.

Hewlett Packard is the worst with this. They actually spend millions of dollars trying to find different ways to make their cartridges harder to remanufacture.

I would stick with the OEM cartridges, myself. Cheaper in the long run, when you add expensive service calls to the mix.

I guess it is a possibility, but highly unlikely. They just don't want you buying refurbished, they want you buying from THEM!
