cold air intake system always helps with gas mileage and performance and doesn't require major fabrication.

Note:
Don't give to much credit to what michael081278 is saying, he works for a company that sells performance computer chips and is only giving advise to support his products and is not being fair to scientific and proven facts. Your engine has only a certain amount of power, tapping into that power is what your trying to do.

Performance computer chips only work on cars that are totally controlled by a Engine Control Module (ECM), you can make the SAME adjustments with your 1998 Truck by advancing the timing yourself, your truck has a distributor that is adjusted by a mechanic not a computer.

Most manufactures are trying to get good gas mileage with the smaller engines like you have. Cold air is more dense than heated air and allows you to burn the fuel more efficiently, increasing performance and economy.

Another bolt on performance would be a bigger exhaust system, getting the engine to breathe better will greatly help in performance.

So michael sounds as tho he has an agenda be careful about his motives and don't discredit others because of his personal issues.

just remember, you pay for what you get. Don't listen to all these idiots who think you can add this or that and get any kind of noticable difference in your HP. The one sure way to get some performance is to have your computer changed with an after market high performace computer. But even with that, your not getting a whole lot. My advice to you, trade it in for a V6 or a V8.
