ISCOM is comprised of 52 American orchestras.

The average minimum salary for the 2003-2004 season for musicians in International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ISCOM) orchestras was $57,370.

Concertmasters, first-chair players and other players with key responsibilities receive salaries above the minimum scale. Extensive data about individual contracts are not available, but orchestras’ federal tax forms are publicly available and reveal the following:

Approximately 24 musicians in 11 ICSOM orchestras earn more than $200,000.

Around 100 musicians in 19 orchestras earn more than $150,000.

5 musicians, or 0.1% of ICSOM musicians, earn more than $300,000.

It really depends what orchestra and your chair...but most is not very much. The conductor however, is making a ton. For violin private lessons, it depends on how well you teach. For a beginner, maybe around 20-25 $. But if you are extremely advanced, then 75 or even 100 dollars an hour is reasonable.

Good Luck!

I don't know for sure, but a few years ago I read that even the top musicians get only about $15,000 a year.
