got picked up by the police cuz they said she and a boyfriend are on tape trying to steal a car--she denies it said they were talking to a friend in between some cars and he happend to push a button on the car and something popped--and they walked back to the house to change to shorts and walked back to the park to play basketball-the owner of the car went up to all the kids asked for the kid with the pants--and the girl--he said to my daughter he was going to kick her *** and her boyfriend--well the boyfriend started protecting my daugter and got into and arguement woth the owner-then the police came--took the boyfriend and then my daughter--at the station they kept her in a room--talked to her--asked her all kinds of questions and took her picture--there was not even a female officer with her--she said she overheard the police tell the guy that he had to file charges on the kids--we never got to talk to my daughter and never got to see this video--never got any papers or anything-

It would not surprise me if you daughter was not telling the truth. I have no idea what your daughter is like but a 16 year old lying is a very realistic. The other question is how well do you know her boyfriend and is he capable of trying to steal a car or get into trouble somehow.
WIth that being said you know your daughter better then any of us. If you beilive her then defend her and take her side. I dont think a female officer needs to be there just to ask questions.
If you are that concerned I will call the police department and explain who you are and what your daughter told you. It is better to find out now then to have it sit on your mind to see if you do or dont get a phone call or any kind of notification. I would not call a lawyer now I would find out if there are any charges 1st dont waste your money.

Mom: reread this!! It sounds very much like you are making excuses for your daughter's behavior. Why should she get a female officer to talk to her? This isn't a strip search! You will get papers and you have every right to speak with the (arresting) officers. But the point is- you should be happy your daughter was taken in. I can't imagine the police would have waisted tax payer's money on teenagers that were just "talking". Move out of the comfortable land of denial and let your daughter be responsible for her behavior. In another year or two you will not be able to "rescue" her anymore. So try and let go now. Let her deal with this. It is not YOUR problem. Give her ownership to her problems, let her suffer the consequences, and then step back and know that she will learn from this. Best of luck to you.

This is the time where you need to get a lawyer. Because she is 16 and she does not have a record (or does she?), this lawyer can adjust the fact that she was not present with the adults (her parents) or with any type of female officer. Man, I do not know about you, but, if all turns out that this guy has made a mistake, you can sue him for false information and you can sue the police department.
I would call a good lawyer who knows about these things ASAP!
Good Luck.

I would say you are 16 years old due to the spelling and the way the sentences run on and on. There does not have to be a female officer present when questions are being asked, only if there was a pat down would a female officer be required. I would have to say that you are in some serious trouble, why would he have just happened to push a button and have something pop?? And then you all have to go change your clothes? It doesn't add up, try another time.

Sorry, dear, but it sounds like you have blinders on. Fact of the matter is if the kids were confrontational with the owner, they were probably smart a**es to the cops. Upstanding kids simple dont even become suspects. Do yourself and your daughter a favor talk to the police, get the real story and apply some discipline to your teenager before it is too late.

so whats the question? they were in the wrong and maybe your daughter isnt telling the whole truth about the situation because im 15 1/2 and i know if i got picked up by the police about this then i would try to make it as innocent as i possibly can. more than likely your daughter will be taken to court over this then you can ask all your questions to the judge. somethings wrong with this picture

These people who are telling you to get an attorney are right! Some good news is ten years from now this will just be a bad memory. These next months are going to be stressful though! Hang in there, and get an attorney!

Cops have better things to do than make up wimpy attempted theft charges against clean cut innocent teens.
Your daughter is being judged by the company she keeps.
you should be looking a little harder at her friends and boyfriend.
They don't have to show you any evidence prior to a criminal hearing.
better get a lwyer and be prepared to have your eyes opened regarding your daughter's friends and quite probably her as well

you should have every right to get a copy of those tapes and papers. but the question i have is why did your daughter have to change shorts to go nearby and go to the park. if they refuse to show you the tape and any form of evidence, i would call a lawyer.

sounds like your kid doesnt know how to stay out of trouble- the bf and friends sound like trouble too-- if it was as innocent as you say- the police would not have taken them down to the station--the police investigate this all the time its their job!!!!! the police dont have to show you anything- its their investigation-- if they have sufficient evidence the kids will be charged and it will be shown in court-- i suggest you teach ur daughter to stay out of trouble and keep her mouth shut--
