Israel is bombing Lebanon to the dark ages because citizens of Lebanon (and they might not even all be citizens, just random people in Lebanon) known as Hezbollah kidnapped 2 (yeah just two) Israeli soldiers.

Why Hezbollah kidnapped the soldiers is not completely clear, but they have been fighting against Israel ever since the Arab nations lost the 7 Days War.

The 6 Days War was a war fought shortly after Israel was created. The Arab nations attempted to retake land that was stolen by the western nations. They summarily got their butts handed to them because Israel was backed by the US and friends. In this conflict Israel took more land from the surrounding nations.

Israel was created out of Palestine after WW II in part because of massive guilt on the part of the western countries for not realizing what Hitler was doing in the Holocaust. Another, less talked about reason, was that most European nations didn't really want the Jews around anyway.

Going back further there has always been animosity between the two cultures (Hebrew and Arab) even into Biblical times (BCE).

EDDie gave a pretty good answer, but let me just say this. Lebanon is harboring an international terrorist group that is reponsible for hundreds of terror attacks against Israeli civilians. Afghanistan was harboring a terrorist group that was responsible for less terrorist attacks than Hezbolah, and yet the whole world didn't care when we attacked Afghanistan. When the Jews are under attack though, and defend themselves, all of a sudden the Jews are the villians.
Part of Hezbolah's argument against Israel is the land that Israel owns. Let me point out a few historical facts.
1. Israel accepted the Partition Agreement made by the U.N. which split palestine 50-50 between Jews and Arabs. The Arabs rejected it, because they wanted all the land.
2. When the first Arab-Israeli war started, the Gaza Strip was taken away from the Palestinians not by Jews, but by an Eqyptian army that was supposedly invading to help drive the Jews into the sea. The West Bank was taken from the Palestinians by the Jordanian army.
3. Durring a later war, when Eqypt and Jordan attacked Israel, the Jews captured these regions, and occupied them. Jordan never demanded the return of the West Bank durring any peace negotiations between them and Israel, and actually drove the PLO out of Jordan, because the PLO was carying out terrorist attacks against Jordan as well as Israel.
4. The PLO, and Hezbolah, have not only attacked Israel in the past, but also Lebanese christians. The Lebanese civil war was caused by Hezbolah and the PLO attacking everyone who was not an Arab muslim. They were, at that time, fighting Israel, Lebanese Christians, and any western peace keeping force that showed up.
5. The U.N. ordered Lebanon to disarm Hezbolah as part of a peace treaty with Israel. Lebanon failed to do so, and the U.N. did not enforce the order. Now, Hezbolah has continued firing rockets into areas of civilian population in Israel, and has begun raiding across the border to kill Israelies and take others captive, in striking similarity to their terrorist activities durring the 70s and 80s up in Lebanon. Israel has a right to defend itself since the U.N. and its Muslim secretary general won't protect them.

Where is 'Hezzbollah'? I've look at my map and can't find it.

I know of a group called the HezBULLies. They are fighting because their mothers never taught them to play nice with the kids next door.

Hezbollah is a terrorist group in Lebanon, supported by Syria and Iran that repeatedly struck civilians in Israel. The members are Shiite Muslims, led by Hassan Nasrallah. Their mission is to destroy the State of Israel and terrorize its citizens, and are directly attacking citizens in Israeli cities as I write this, directly at residential locations, killing, injuring, and terrorizing Israeli civilians. They have apologized only when Arab-Israelis were killed, not Jewish, Christian or otherwise.

Lebanon is a very weak country that has been controlled for a few decades by Syria and Iran. Their last prime minister, Harriri, was assassinated for opposing Syrian occupation.

The situation is tragic over there, but it is Lebanon's fault for not protecting itself and exercising its sovereign right against a militia, a terrorist group in control of parts of its country.

Unfortunately for the Lebanese civilians, Hezbollah embeds itself, and launches rockets within residential areas. Israel has warned in advance to allow people to leave, but Hezbollah uses many civilians as human shield. Israel tries as best as possible to avoid killing civilians, while Hezbollah and other terrorist groups are intentionally targeting Israeli civilians, and only apologize if they killed Arab-Israeli civilians.

Syria is re-supplying Hezbollah with rockets, and that the Israeli Air Force is only striking resupplies when it passes into Lebanon (unfortunately, not 100% of the supply is destroyed in time by Israel...at least, no YET).

Let me remind you and others how the current situation began 3 weeks ago:

BUT FOR Hezbollah going on Israeli soil, killing 8 and kidnapping 2 Israeli soldiers, Israel would not be on the offensive to destory Hezbollah. This is not a war on Lebanon. It is a war on Hezbollah and its backers (Syria and Iran). Since the Lebanese army that numbers about 150,000 soldiers is unwilling and/or unable to remove Hezbollah's 5,000 terrorists, Israel will.

Israel wants peace and recognition of its existence. The Muslim extremists, including Syria and Iran regimes want Israel wiped off the face of the earth, and have repeatedly said so. Israel has absolutely no interest in claiming Lebanon, or any other Arab country.

I don't know about you, but when you hear a leader of a regime (Iran) inciting hate and claiming his intentions, he and his regime must be taken out (if the world would have done so with Hitler, there would not have been a Holocaust or WWII).

For those who believe that the extremist element in Islam is small, the numbers are staggering. There are 1.2 billion Muslims in this world. Lets take a very liberal view that only a very small percentage of Muslims are exterme, while the rest of the Muslim world is very peaceful. So if only 10% of Muslims have extreme point of views, and may be a threat, and must be dealt with, meaning dealing with 120 million Muslims! How about 1%? Then you must deal with 12 million Muslims. How about 1/10 of a percent? Then you must deal with 1.2 million Muslims. The numbers are staggering! How do you propose dealing with even the "very low" figures of 1.2 million Muslim extremists?

I am sick and tired of hearing from Muslims that Islam is such a "peaceful religion."(!) Well, thank Allah Islam is such a "peaceful religion". Can you imagine if it weren't??!

It is time for the Muslim world to take some accountability and handle its exterme element that is numbered in the millions of people.

This is a grave and dangerous situation, but it has to and will be dealt with. Whether by global support or only by Israel. Israel has no choice but to destroy Hezbollah.

Deal with Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran, and you shall have peace in the Middle East. The extremist element of Islam MUST BE and WILL BE dealt with. So it is written, so it shall be.
