The Global warming/Ice age fears have been on a teeter totter for many decades now. They predict a second ice age, then its global warming. The Earths Temperature varies and if you were to chart it you would see something like aa investment graph with peaks and valleys all along it. And in the last 30 to 40 years it has fallen bellow the median more often than it has been above it. The most significant increase in the last several hundres years was prior to 1940 yet most carbon dioxide emision problem did not increase until after 1940 so how can that be the issue?

It is just something some politicians use for their soapbox to get people stirred up over something they know they can't hope to figure out or control but use to get votes. Or something they can use to pump billions of dollars into for "Research" as a reason to inflate taxes. Of which only a portion of actually goes to and the rest is left for them to put into "pet projects"

I am not saying it is not a problem. There is far more that just the global warming at stake here. Most of these gasses are also poisonous to plant life so we do need to keep it down. I think Earth will take care of itself as long as we do as much as we can on our behalf. It's kind of like our bodies. We can destroy it by filling it with junk that gives us only temporary pleasure. But if we treat them right we can have a little of the "junk" and still come out fine.

I don't think global warming is a myth. The fact is that the results of the global warming will not only be warming in most places, but it could actually be cooling down on some other places. The average will be warming up, and it could eventually even become a self sustaining process of warming up. Things do not happen in a few years, but may take decades to 100s of years to evolve. There is a scenario that if the ice on Greenland starts melting (which it does), the melting water will replace a part of the warm water that is coming from the equator with the Gulf stream. The warm water normally keeps the north pole ice from growing too fast or it even melts, and it makes the north east coast of the USA and large parts of Europe habitable. Not long ago scientists have discovered this is already happening. Nobody can tell what the exact effect will be, but predictions have show it could turn into a new ice-age, as the warmth from the equator can't go north anymore. But many people dont care, they just drive their airconditioned SUV and blame the oil companies for the high oil prices.

Because there is not enough information. Global changes take thousands of years to happen and we have just been paying attention the last few hundred years. I get a kick out of how a certain year is the hottest in 100 years, but don't try to explain why it was so hot 100 years ago. I also like how they talk about the record hot temperatures in the US but ignore the record cold tempratures in Russia (by the way, this is due to the El Ninio and La Nina effect)

Also the global temperature checks are only done in about 60 locations, kind of a small sampling on a world scale. We are in a warming trend but that is not new. The cycle we are in has been mapped over the past few hundred years and we are heading toward a cooling trend. The last time we were at this point was in the 1950s.

I don't think global warming is a myth, it has happened before..... it is a cyclical event that our planet goes through. The axis of earth also changes over time, many scientists have said that is what causes the ice ages and the climatic changes such as global warming.

I do not think man or his emmissions contribute to global warming in any significant manner..... a hole in the ozone? Was it there 20,000 years ago? 100,000? We don't know.... No one does... except ^. I wish we could know if it was there during the time of the dinosaurs. It is senseless to penalize America for the unknown.....

One volcanic eruption puts more gasses and debris in the air in one day than mankind can contribute in years.

Some scientists are still forecasting a cooling trend..... who to believe. I believe the glaciers are melting, I believe they have melted before, then reformed over time, etc.

What irritates me most, is the fact that politicians use "global warming and global cooling" as a political weapon against America. I don't buy into any treaty or agreement that exempts any nation from air quality standards, yet puts a burden on others.... "like a liberal would do"(that could get into another like realm entirely)

There are lots of +s and -s about the EPA, it goes to idiotic extremes in some cases, yet sometimes makes sense and worthwhile decisions, and does discover major pollution dangers, but the way it goes after every little thing and tries to make everything an enviromental hazard is going overboard. I know, I know.... little things add up quickly, it creates jobs.... well, so do the poor quality products that line the shelves of the stores with their continual need for replacement.....

In the 70's, one of the leading theories regarding a new ice age was actually related to global warming, which was already being observed 30 years ago. The theory was that if a certain amount of polar ice melted, it would start the glaciers at both poles moving toward the equator, possibly bringing on a new ice age. This theory has not been ruled out and there are still articles on it (see below). You just don't hear much about the theory any more because the government doesn't want you to.

wake up and smell your coffee! If global warming was a myth we should not be having a half dozen more hurricanes than usual ( or the intensity ), the polar ice caps should not be melting..... but guess you need to get out and read dude! or maybe if humans continue with the destruction of this planet very soon you would need a boat to go to starbucks rather than drive to one.
Also the prediction of ice age was done by scientists lond time ago before they could envisage the ruthless use of motor vehicles and deforestation.

i dont think global warming is a myth..i was living in washington when a man caught a marlin off the oregon coast...marlin dont swim that far northward normally, a team of scientists said its because the water temperature is increasing at a rate of 5 degrees every 3-5 years... when you look at the research on the ozone layer & the hole there & know its due to aeresol & industrial pollution, its only a matter of time til it all comes back on us..we've been trashing mother earth since the beginning of time, humans are pigs & earth is our dump ground. if we dont recognize what we are doing to the earth & do something to improve conditions here, there will be no earth for our childrens children... youve heard it before & still you ignore the truth so keep being pigs & hopefully you'll be 1st in line when it all falls apart... see you on the dark side of the moon

It may be real, but it's not necessarily caused by humans.

Humans are but a speck on this big planet. Mother nature can and will take care of creatures that are not working out for some reason or another.

Take a look at Google Earth. Find the biggest city, then zoom out to view the entire planet. See what a speck it is?

The Earth has been going through things like this for billions of years. It is a dynamic planet. It will survive. If we do not, then we were not meant to.

Not a myth. And since when was there a prediction of an ice age? I don't remember that.

I just find it hard to believe that all these hurricanes, sudden rise and dips in tempuratures can't be caused by us and it's all a coincidence to us using vehicles and having coal plants.

Global warming is a fact, but the causes of it are open to debate. The geological record shows that this planet has undergone long cycles of warming and cooling for millions of years. It's just that they take so long to occur that we don't have enough recorded history to document them. These cycles take thousands of years to work themselves out.
I've heard it said that the output of air pollution from just one major volcanic eruption is more than the total output from human activity since the industrial age began. We're certainly not helping the situation, but our contribution to it is miniscule, and our abliity to influence the planetary cycle is non-existant. What we need is the foresight to prepare for what's coming...adaptation to environment is what evolution is all about.
