I'm turning 16 this August, but I don't think I'm going to be having a sweet 16. Those are just not for me.

No. My 16th birthday was awful.
My best girl friend forgot my birthday, then tried to make it up to me the next week. My best guy friend was seriously sick, and I hadn't been able to see him in months. I got in trouble for going out with a friend and not calling home. My parents and relatives gave me a charm bracelet and charms that I didn't want. I had a job that I hated. I didn't get a new car, b/c my sister had just gotten one when she graduated from high school.
17 was a much better year for me.

Yes and ourfamily custom is the daughter gets 16 red roses and a birthstone ring!My daughters had Quinces,since they are Cuban.

i went to new orleans for my 16th b-day...but it wasn't anything like the sweet 16 on mtv...that just isn't my kind of thing.

yeah it was a few years ago but i remember it like it was yesterday.. my mom gave me some peach tree and orange juice and told me to have fun.. and that was the first time i slept with my first serious b/f... very fun times.. i wish i was 16 again

that's the year i had to leave all my friends to move to another country with my dad. and it wasn't sweet, i can tell you that.
it makes me smile now, but i sure wasn't smiling at the time. it has to be the worst year of my teenage years. (and you know how dramatic and miserable we can be as teenagers)
