True beauty is not how you look on the outside.

If you feel beautiful inside, it will shine through and that is the ultimate beauty.

There has been a study done, with a gobal polling system. This study went into Indoneisa, Africa, South America, Central America, as well as industrialized nations such as the USA, Canada, Germany, England etc.

They asked some 200,000 males to pick a female silowette out of 35 other female silowettes of the most beautiful woman. An astonding 89% of men worldwide choose the "hour glass" figure, as the benchmark of beauty.

There are other scientific studies as well such as....

In the 1990 study by Langlois & Roggmann it was found that an extremely average face was considered the most attractive by the study group. A composite face (one of both sexes) was generated by combining all of the most common features from a group of photographs. The result was a face devoid of any irregularities, and especially asymetrical features. It was suggested that the features represented may indicate a lack of genetic variation, promoting an indication of a particularly desirable mate. Interestingly, in the same study, combining racial features from ethnic groups in creating a meta-average composite face produced much the same results.

There are three basic contributors to genetic beauty: averageness, symmetry, and sexual dimorphism. Averageness is sexually preferable because it potentially reflects stability during development, heterozygosity, and functional optimization. Bilateral symmetry is sexually preferable because it potentially reflects the ability to respond reliably to environmental pressures. Sexual dimorphism is sexually preferable because it indicates sexual maturity, reproductive potential, and health. Males tend to prefer a feminized face in females, while females' preference varies depending on the phase of their menstrual cycle.

Mathematical beauty
Even mathematical formulae can be considered beautiful. eiπ + 1 = 0 is commonly considered one of the most beautiful theorems in mathematics (see Euler's identity). The poet Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote that "Euclid alone has looked on beauty bare" in an allusion to the austere beauty many people have found in the reasoning in the geometer Euclid's Elements.

Another connection between mathematics and beauty which played a prominent role in Pythagoras' philosophy was the way in which musical tones can be arranged in mathematical sequences, which repeat at regular intervals called octaves.

The so-called "Golden Mean", represented by the Greek letter Phi (φ) and approximately equal to 1.618, has also been considered by many to be beautiful. It is also called the divine ratio and it is frequently found in nature. For example, in a nautilus shell, the ratio between each section is about 1.618. In Ancient Greece and Rome beauty was measured and based on similar principles. See Golden Ratio.

Standards of physical beauty are a superficial creation of humankind, and they change all the time, like "fashion". If you want an eye-opener, look at renaissance art. Those painters were depicting what to them was the height of physical beauty. Today, we'd call them just "fat".
True beauty comes from within.

Each culture defines its standards of external beauty.

Real beauty, though, comes from within and is a reflection of how a person treats others and relates to the world.

In our culture, I think I read that physical characteristics which are considered "beautiful" are: high, defined cheekbones; big, wide-set eyes; a mouth and nose proportional to the face.

wats the use of a standard evidence for true beauty, if ppl does not know how to appreciate the beauty of simple things all ard them? example, an old man n his old wife hugging each other affectionately at a park. would u see it as another old couple taking their morning walk in the park, or would u see how they are keeping love alive at their age and appreciate the beauty of it?

Yes. The eye of the beholder. But that's not a standard standard. More like personal standard.
