Sports!
I'm from Italy, and football is our national sport, the one and only sport you see on TV every Sunday and on other days of the week too, if an important match is on.
I grew up watching football. My dad also likes cyclism and Formula 1, but football was the one that was on TV the most. So, it pretty much means "sports" to me, and it actually is the only sport I understand and care to watch. So, I'm having a pretty hard time now in the USA!!! (I don't have Fox soccer channel or Gol TV because I can't install a satellite dish -- my terrace looks toward the wrong direction, GRRR. And digital cable is too expensive!). I've tried getting into hockey, which kinda sorta resembles soccer in a way, but it's just not the same!!!

lacking..
Watching a game is similar to watching golf or Nascar.. a few great moments, but not often enough.. I have tried for the past ten years to develop a taste for the game, but it just doesn' excite me like Hockey or American football does.. Even baseball, with it's many 'games within the game' and subtle nuiances is more exciting than watching soccer/football..
Having said that, I would never degrade the athletes that play the game, playing it takes perhaps one of the highest forms of athleticism.. But as a spectator sport, it lacks enough excitement.. Only time I get mildy excited is watching INternational play when it's national pride on the line..

There are so many words that come to my mind when I think of football, but one includes them all: LIFE
I think football is just life transformed in a game, reduced to the meters of a pitch. We can find everything there: passion, fight, joy, despair, ambition, tears, quarrels. The best and the worst things of life. But we keep watching it and football still goes on, just like we keep living, even though bad things could happen to us.

Exhilaration; the matches are filled with excitement, and the unexpected will always occur. It's great to just see the players working hard to show that they represent their country well, and, sometimes, the nearly-impossible maneuvers from the extremely talented. I still miss the World Cup, because there was something to constantly look forward to during the summer holidays.

It has two meanings
1. Supporting (one word shoot - it only involves Shouting - Celebrating - Crying - Laughing - Jumping from your seat - Disappointment - Stunning - Close eyes when a penalty is shooting - Going so far from from your home, sometimes to see your team losing - Paying expensive tickets, sometimes having poor performances - In few words only: TO LOVE YOUR TEAM)
2. Playing (one word shoot involving: Entertainment - Joy - Laughs - Pain (my experience: broken ankle, I played 15' till match ends, next day ankle was large as a ball and I can't walking, first aid X-rays found bone was broken) - Shouting and sometimes blaming your teammates - Willingness (best way to sturdy cover your lack of skills) - Team spirit - Celebration of wins as well as lost games - Joining the challenge besides your technical and physio limits - In few words only: TO LOVE FOOTBALL)

In one word? Can't do that!
Soccer has been a big part of my life since I was a little girl....it means passion, excitement, devotion and dedication....It has brought me tears of joy as well as tears of sorrow, but overall it's something I can't get away with....call it addiction. :-)

EMOTION-because if my team wins, I will be ecstatic, full of joy, if they lose, I will drown in melancholy, if the referee makes a controvesial call, I will be angry, and during the match, I'm always on the edge of my seat anticipating what might come next, it is all about EMOTION!!!!!
