My kids grew up in South Florida as young, little ones so we spent a lot of time at the beach. Bring a huge umbrella for shade and I found (despite what a pain it was to lug around) that a playpen saved my life! Also, bring a sun hat, sun glasses, lots and lots of towels and shoes that are wearable in the water. Sand is not the softest feeling for young soft baby feet! Cover that little one up with the highest sunblock you can find and HAVE FUN! Buckets and shovels and pails and sifters...all the typical sand toys are a ton of fun!

I took my son to the beach last month, when he was 7 months old. I brought toys for him, but he was more interested in the sand and shells. He didn't care too much for the water b/c of the waves, but he had a blast in the sand. As for cover-ups, bring a beach umberella. My son is very dark skinned, so I don't have to worry about him burning very much. I would suggest going out on the beach more towards the evening time. That way he won't be as likely to burn. Hope you have fun!

We had a great time at the beach when ours were babies, and we generally kept them covered in a cabana, except for short trips to the water. Many pack and plays come with these sun shields. Be sure to apply sunscreen liberally, and parents always forget their heads! They do not have much hair, so it is a good idea to do their scalps as well. Use 30+, and reapply every two to three hours. If you can get them to keep them on, a sun hat with a brim is a great idea to shade the eyes better. Have a wonderful trip, and don't worry!!!

I would try to bring alot of shade. Whether it be a pop up tent or something like that to put him in. My daughter is almost 20 months old and i've yet to take her to the beach. I'll wait until next summer as i still feel that she is too young to be out in the sun and heat for an extended amount of time like that.
But i wish you the best of luck. Also, i use this new sunblock that is amazing, its from Coppertone but it is the mist one. It is SPF 50 for kids and it is just so easy to apply! And my daughter hasnt gotten burned or anything using it!
Good Luck and enjoy your trip!

We lived ON the beach with my children, so I just allowed them 15 or so minutes of sun, before 9 am, or after 4 pm. Otherwise, I kept a little sun tent over them, I don't like sunblock on a baby. I used hats, little hooded cotton sweatshirts, and hubby and I took turns with them, to limit their sun exposure. They ALL tried to eat the sand, and anything else in sight. I think it's important for the child to FEEL water, sand, everything. Give them memories. Hope you guys have fun!

He should love the sand and water. Bring a wide variety of sand toys and an infant floating toy to put him in the water, also sand toys are a hit in the water and the sand. What my little one likes about the beach is freedom to explore and what he disliked was leaving!!

My little one liked the wet sand not the dry sand
make sure you bring a couple of hats they disappear
some kind of shade tent for the little one to play in or under an umbrella alone wont work just remember he will get tired fast
ant kind of toy would work
just don't bring his favorite in case you loose them
cars-bucket and shovel
lots a water to rinse his mouth

Both of my children were out in the sun at 6 months old. Just make sure that you put on a baby sunscreen which has a high SPF to protect them. I would also suggest a hat of some sort to keep the sun off of their head.

Go to www.onestepahead.com They have all kinds of baby products and you might be able to get a good price on their summer products, like swim outfits with SPF in them. Take a good spray on sunscreen....The one I have is 45 SPF. My son would never keep sunglasses on, but Walmart sometimes will have infant ones, but One step ahead has ones that have a strap on them that goes around their head.
