Drag it to full size by the corners and edges. Do not use the maximize button. Now while holding the control key click on the X to close the window. Note that with many programs if you use a small window as the last window the program will keep that size. That can happen on the internet when a site opens a smaller window for some purpose and then you end the browser without closing it.

Windows open in a browser when surfing the net sometimes are resized: sometime a site makes the window maximized, sometimes a site makes a window smaller.
Windows other than a browser window can be done as follows...grab the right hand corner with the mouse - you will see the cursor change to arrows - and pull the window wider. Reposition it if needed and get the window the size you want.
Windows also will remember the size. And you can try this: open a window in Windows, click on Tools, Folder Options, View, and click the button for Apply to all folders [after you have sized a window to the size you want].

Don't maximize it. Drag the window's corners to a size that fills the entire screen. Then close the window. When you next open a new window, presto! It's full screen now!

OPEN IE WINDOWS MAXIMIZED â
â
â Right click the shortcut icon for IE next to the Start button, choose Properties, change it from 'normal' to 'maximized'. Now open it. Now right click any link on the page, choose Open In New Window....don't maximize it....instead, use the mouse to resize it to what you want it to be. Now close the FIRST window you opened, and then close the new one you just resized.
Reopen IE from the shortcut icon again, and all windows from now on will be the size you chose and created.

if you are running windows xp, go to your controle pannel, then go to appearance and settings, then go to folder options, choose "open each folder in the same window" apply and then ok, you may have to reboot. and then normally a window is going to open in the same manner it was closed last, so if the window is not maximized when shut it won't open maximized (close the window when maximized) hope this does the job.

If you close the last windown and it's MAXIMIZED then it should open a new window with that setting. At least that works with most Microsoft programs.
