Absolutely - it drives me crazy to hear some of the stupid names parents inflict on innocent babies - it's a serious responsibility to give another person the name they'll use for the rest of their lives. Some people think it's a joke, not realizing the long-term consequences of giving a child an embarrassing or made-up name. Hopefully the child will grow up and go by a nickname, or even have it legally changed if it's bad enough.

I don't know for sure, but I have noticed a corrolation between some names/nicknames and personality traits. They don't hold for 100% of the people with the name, but there are better odds than I would expect.

For instance, a couple I have noticed, Steves are usually more agressive and Chrises (boys and girls that go by Chris or variants like Kristine) are usually a little more crazy.

I think Devan is right to about some of the stranger names, although my wife is named after a character in an obscure sci-fi novel and isn't much more miserable for it.

Yes i do think a person's name affects them. You don't to be given a name or give a child name that will affect him in the real world. When giving a name you should think about what kind of person you want your child to become and hope that when he does go out there and get a job, they won't hire him based on his name and not his qualifications.

This is a really good question (should have been featured for the day). I think names really do affect life. If your name is common like Chris etc. people don't ask you how to spell it and you could be almost any nationality and have that name. Now if your name is something exotic like Zelda or Zuanisha or whatever, people are gonna be like "Ohh, what does that mean?". People who ask that could really be thinking "Wow, that's ghetto". Some names cane even distinguish nationality. Let's be honest, how many white Laquisha's do you know (this happens rarely)?

I think just coincidentally some people's names coincide with their names.

Yes I do. But it also might have something to do with the kind of parents that would choose a name like that.

More traditional parents choose more traditional names and so forth.

There is a very interesting book called 'the hidden meaning of your name'
so much of it is so accurate and so dead on, it's very weird to see how much impact a name really has.
It also has to do with cultural biases. For instance, a traditional name will go farther than a weird trendy one in the business world .

Strangely enough I do...I've noticed that very often, people with the same Christian name tend to have very similar characteristics...seems bizarre I know...also...how many celebrities do you know that have attained success after changing their names, when they were unsuccessful before?

It depends on the name. A normal name wont have an efect, but something stupid like lacreesha, and apple will surely make you miserable.
