in the UK, the lintel of the doorway into the bathroom is always 2-3 inches lower than all the othe dorways in the house. why??

Mines not! I've never seen any doorways for bathrooms shorter than the rest of the doors, where in the UK are yo seeing this phenomenon?

Not true. Typically all door heights should be the same to maintain a visually consistent line between them.
I suspect the bathroom/toilet you're talking about has a lower door has something to do with the lower ceiling height in the bathroom/toilet (you can't have a door taller than the ceiling level)? Maybe this is because the space available above the ceiling if it were set at the same level as the other rooms would not be enough to accommodate a water tank?

When is a door not a door ? When it is a jar ! All the doors in my house are the same size , I just have one door problem . Seams like every time I come home early from work and open the front door , the back door slams ? I'll have to contact the contractor about this problem . Sorry if I wasn't much help , I would like to come to the UK someday and check out your bathroom door and oh yes your plumbing too !

I remember seeing that in one house (in the US) but it was really old and that's the only house I've ever seen it in. Maybe it was a way for people who didn't know the house to identify which room was the bathroom even with the door closed.

I have never seen a bathroom door shorter than all the other doors. must be a UK thing. I find it interesting now I will have to do some research into the subject to see why.

What kind of houses have you been to? A doorway is 6'6, I've never seen one that's a different size unless the house is really old.

old houses did not have bathrooms, they were converted out buildings in somecases and as such you stepped down into them, when converted the finish floor level was made higher, but the lintels and doorcases never lifted.

I've been alive 24 years and lived here all my life and I'm trying to picture all my friends and family's houses and I'm afraid that they all have normal sized doors for the bathroom.

Is this true? I've lived in the UK just about all my life and I've never noticed that before. Perhaps you're expected not to be wearing shoes...
