A lot can be said for The Godfather (1&2), Goodfellas, Road to Perdition, Scarface, Bonnie & Clyde, The French Connection, On The Waterfront, Prizzi's Honor, The Untouchables, Casino, and Pulp Fiction. All excellent movies in their own right.

If you enjoy the politics involved with Gangsters then look at The Godfather. Enjoy watching the good guys chase then the Untouchables. The rise and fall of gangsters is covered best in Scarface and Goodfellas. For comedy watch I married the Mob.

Have to with Goodfellas, but it's close. I have framed posters of Scarface and Goodfellas in my house!!
Also great are Casino, GodFather, Godfather 2, Carlitto's Way, The Untouchables, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells and Boyz In Tha Hood.

Tough call. Untouchables and Goodfellas are good but I'd probably have to say The Godfather part 1.
I know the worst Gangster film. Revolver, without a doubt. That was garbage pretending to be a film. Avoid.

If you're talking about the classic era it has got to be 'White Heat' - Cagney is awesome.
If you want a historical gangster movie made in modern times then 'Once upon a time in America' is one of the greatest movies of all time - period.
'Goodfellas' is fabulous and 'Scarface' has an unbelievable performance by Pacino but what about 'Carlitos Way'?
Sorry, more questions than answers!

Sin City is the best example of a comic book film noir style if you can loosely call it a gangster film. The Untouchables and Goodfellas were great. Robert de Niro shows up in a lot of gangster films but I find The Godfather films pretentious rubbish.

I have not read the other answers but it has got to be The Godfather. It doesn't get any better. Goodfellas and Scarface were really good, but the Godfather reigns supreme.
