I have never heard of a children's tale about The story of Johnny McGory. As children we used to chant this rhyme:
"Will I tell you a story?
About Johnny McGory?
Will I begin it?
Well that's all that's in it,"
Ronnie Drew of the Dubliners sang a song, written by Pete St.John, named Johnny McGory. I don't think it would lend itself to a good story for children. Link below.
The Irish writer/director John O'Donnell wrote an award winning drama "The Story of Johnny McGory" which won the BBC Showreel Award, Choice Film Award, Best Short & Best Special Effects at the Cork Film Festival along with the Dublin Millennium Award.

Johnny McGory had a little dog. His name was Buff.
He sent him upstairs for a box of snuff.
He fell down stairs and broke the box and spilled the snuff.
I think my story is long enough.
I was taught this rhyme by my grandmother, who was born in 1892, and when to school in Co. Mayo, Ireland.

My dad told me someting like this:
I’ll tell you a story,
about Johnny McGlory,
and now my story’s begun,
I’ll tell you another,
about his brother,
and now my story is done.

I’ll tell you a story,
about Johnny McGory,
only if you dont speak in the middle of it.
Well, are you going to speak in the middle?
"No"
You just did.
