It's not stupid crap.
If everyone was gay overnight, then there would be no more children being created. In 18 years (the voting age), there would be no more people to vote Republican and the party would dissolve.
As far as flags being burned, that's because flags are made from carcinogenic material and if burned it could pollute the atmosphere. Republicans are very concerned about every body's health, is all.
The other Stupid crap is just human nature. Until stem cell research is researched enough to find out how to grow more brain cells in humans and increase our IQ, we'll just have to get by on stupidity.

First off GAY marriage is just wrong. God created a man and a women. So therefore no gay people should get married cause that is just sick and nasty.Burning the Flags is wrong too if you don't have a purpose like it touching the ground or whatever. The flag stands for America and all the people that died to keep or freedom. So if you disrespect the flag you disrespect all those lives that died and saw bad things happen to their friends.

Because one of their core goals is to "promote domestic Tranquility". Like it says in the Constitution.

They see those activities as upsetting the moral balance and domestic stability of the country. Therefore, they are opposed to them.

Some of them are rational positions. But like slavery and segregation, they are also based on prejudice and will eventually fall by the wayside. Remember that the concept of being "conservative" means slow change, not radical upheaval. They might be OK with gay marriage a century from now, but it's too soon for them now. Hence radical, and against domestic tranquility.

Some of their other positions are trying to based secular laws on religions practices. That pendulum keeps swinging, and at this point in history, the courts are allowing the government to mandate conduct based on religious dogma. Eventually, the pendulum will swing back the other way, and the religious reasons won't be valid any more. But again, the conservatives want the pendulum to swing slowly -- no radical changes.

They are trying to divert attention from the real problems: a hopeless war based on a lie in Iraq, illegal immigrants pouring into the country, a deficit that is over $8 billion, the fiasco after Katrina, etc, etc, etc.
