Darwin. He furthered scientific inquiry. Lincoln was just another crooked politician.

Both men have effected the world in their own way. I suppose that the way to answer is if they had not contributed as they did.
I suspect that if Lincoln had not been elected to the Presidency, another Republican would eventually have been, mostly because the North and Midwest regions of the United States had faster growth than the South. Not to minimise his impact, but his role was not necessarily unique.
On the other hand, Darwin developed his theories of evolution by observation on the Galapagos Islands. This was a unique position for him, so even though someone else was going to some out with a similar theory, he was still pretty unique among scientists of the era. He at least had the observational data to back up his theories. Plus, his impact has spread worldwide on his own, while Lincoln's with more directly limited to North America.
Answer: Charles Darwin.

They both have achieved greatness in thier own ranks in quite separate fields. And everyone has their own opinion as to which is better. Everyone is different and some will lean towards the political advances more while some will lean towards the scientific advances darwin claimed.
But you have to look at the facts. Lincon did great things for the country and who knows what he would have done had he not been killed. We have record of all thoose things.
Darwin had many great advances but what he is most famous for is still in fact, just a theory. It has yet to be proven via the "missing link". This question is brought up on the religion subject all the time. It can cause some heated debates at times. This is how I have answered it in the past.
Most religions teach Man was "created". This is a Theory in itself is it not? For all we know Evolution may have been part of that plan. The Bible states that animals were created before man was. And most believe that gods time is far different. One day for him could be millions to us. So could it not be posible that the evolving was part of the creating proccess? Wouldn't that just cause a stir in both parties of the debate?
I think they both have made their mark on history but that is where it is left...History. Most of us are moving forward and take from the past only what we need to help our progress.

Lincoln is more important to the US.
Darwin brought a particular scientific thought to the forefront, but he was by no means the first to 'discover' evolution. A man names Wallace actually is known for writing about the theory that Darwin picked up on and ran with.

Lincoln was one of the greatest figures in American History and he was decisive in the history of his country, but his role in human history does not go beyond the Rio Grande. Charles Darwin gave the world a discovery that would reshape the way we see our origins, our relationship to the world around us and our role in the Universe.
Thanks to the idea of evolution science and medicine have made huge advances. Darwin's contribution is becoming more and more important in the 21st Century as we dig deeper in genetics and begin to understand the symbiotic relation we have with our world.

Lincoln was more important at the time, but we must all agree that their work is what lives on.
Slavery would have been abolished anyway, and evolution would have been discovered too, without either of the 2.
What made Lincoln important, was that he held the Union together, a lesser man would not.
The survival of the USA as the world's only superpower is directly attribtable to him.

This is a no brainer. A. Lincoln. If Lincoln could not have kept the Union together then America would have become at least two and possibly more seperate nations. If a divided and militarily impotent American nations are put on the world stage for two world wars , in all likelyhood those wars aren't won. Need I say more.

Darwin taught us that we can think out of the box. You don't have to believe something because it is popular, in a book, what you are taught, or any other reason. This is POWERFUL.
On the other hand Abe, was a president of the US. He did issue the emancipation proclamation - but he only did so because he had to. He is not the great person history writes.
So, Darwin is more important to us.

Much as I admire Lincoln, both as a man and as a president, the answer has to be Darwin, whose thoughts and writings have had, all over the world, such a profound effect on science, religion and the way we view ourselves and the rest of the universe

I'd say keeping the union together was of greater importance to our way of life today, and the scientific reasoning and basis for a more objective reality would've occurred with or without Darwin.
