Form a plot summary for a producer and see if that is enought to get you through to writing a screenplay. Otherwise write the screenplay and try and sell it to a producer.

You don't need a screenplay to sell the movie. Write an outline and try to get a producer to read it. But since you are probably a nobody without connections, don't hold your breath waiting for a producer to accept to see you.

Write a book. Retain the movie rights.
